Circumcision is a procedure parents can choose for their baby during the first weeks of life, but older children can also benefit from circumcision.
Circumcision for children is a specialty at Circumcision Clinic. The most popular time for circumcision is the first few weeks of life. However, not all babies undergo circumcision at that time for various reasons. We have exceptional skill in performing circumcisions on children of all ages. We carry out circumcision for children in one way:
Placement of a Plastibell circumcision device.
The plastibell technique is the method used in newborn circumcision but can also be used for older babies and toddlers. To carry out the circumcision:
- The doctor will administer local anaesthetic in the form of an injection at the base of his penis. The doctor will wait for few minutes to allow the anaesthetic to take an effect.
- The doctor will clean the area with antiseptic solution and drape it with sterile towels.
- The doctor will place the proper size plastibell over the head (glans) to protect it while circumcising.
- The excess foreskin is pulled over the outside of the plastibell.
- A surgical ligature (string) ties off the unwanted portion of the foreskin, which is removed.
- Final checking for bleeding.
The plastibell device is removed in 7 days. The plastibell procedure takes 30 minutes. Healing takes up to three weeks. Your son’s circumcision area is entirely numb before and during the procedure. The stitches dissolve into the skin, so they don’t need removing.
Don’t hesitate to contact us if your child has any of the following:
- Fever
- Wound that doesn’t stop bleeding.
- No urine 6 to 8 hours after the procedure.
- Redness or swelling that doesn’t get better after 3 days or gets worse.
- Yellow discharge or yellow coating on the penis after 7 days.
